Yes, David, various foodstuffs were frozen in blocks of ice for the polar bears; I think this is probably a piece of meat but I couldn’t get close enough to be sure exactly what is.
Hannover is definitely not one of my favourite German zoos but I was impressed by the new polar exhibit which has a large and very deep pool. It was especially nice that, instead of the typical sterile concrete, the land area had lots of natural vegetation.
