Copenhagen Zoo, July 2009.
The young polar bear couple enjoyed a magnificent play-fight today! My pictures can only do so much to capture the drama! The audience went wild with excitement watching it and I shot a hundred pictures or so in a matter of minutes - just as excited as anyone else! When it was all over, the male mellowed down for several minutes resting on an underwater cliff, occasionally blowing bubbles in the water with eyes half-closed. Meanwhile, the female went for some snacks!
In all honesty, I have to admit that I am somewhat bewildered by the fact that the couple seem to be as happy as they are in this, from most points of views, so bad and outdated exhibit some 60 times or so (I haven´t done the exact math) smaller than the only polar bear exhibit in Sweden.
I only hope that they will remain as happy until the projected new exhibit becomes a reality, hopefully as soon as possible, especially that in its wake the brown bears also will get a much better deal.
