Ah "Copito de Nieve"

One of my favourite ever zoo moments was sitting by the glass watching him for 20 minutes...

Of course, he is very well represented across the world, isn't he? We have a few of his descendants in the UK now.

"Copito de nieve" means little snowflake, you knew? :)

Yes, before we visited Barcelona I did i little reading about Snowflake and learnt that he has had about 4 different names and Copito de nieve was one of the ones that i could remember.

I remmber also watching him for ages. I thought he had an idea he was not like other gorillas.

What was with the huge cut under his arm close to the shoulder it was horrible. It was about 2003 or 2004 not long before his death.

I wouldnot mind bettng that within 5 years 1 of his decendants produces another albino!

For those who don't already know, the four female gorillas with Snowflake on the front of the postcard are his daughter Makinda, his daughter Kena, Kena's daughter Nimba and Makinda's daughter Batanga.

Perhaps it was the scar leftover from a tumor removal? He had cancer for about 2 years before his death if i remember correctly

The "snowflake" shot I think is great, ahahaha seems like the guy is up himself.

Different names for "Snowflake":
  • Nfumu Ngi ("White gorilla"): It's original name in Fang language.
  • Floquet de Neu in catalan
  • Copito de Nieve in spanish
  • Snowflake in english

The cut under the arm that says zooman was due their skin cancer.

It seemed to be more than a cutt. I remmber it to be the size of fist. A open area of skin that l could see his muscle very clearly. I dont doubt he was recieving the best of care. It just seemed extrodinary. I had no idea he had cancer. It all makes sense now.
