Primate Complex - Colobus Monkey Exhibit

Fun fact - according to a few volunteers, this was the exhibit that Samson (Milwaukee's very famous gorilla way back when) lived in.

That is an intriguing fact - thanks! Also, Milwaukee County Zoo has innumerable poor exhibits and this colobus monkey enclosure is amongst the very worst.

When I looked at the photo I immediately thought it had originally been built for Gorilla(s).

The book 'America's Best Zoos' describes the monkeys as being "set in lush rain forest displays". I'm beginning to wonder whether anything written in the book is anywhere near reality?

The Primates of the World building (where the colobus exhibit is) is a very confusing building as in the exhibits for the colobus, siamangs, and orangutans are like the one in this photo, however, the exhibits for diana monkeys, mandrills, spider monkeys, and goeldi monkeys are in fact more jungle-like and natural looking. It's almost as if you're in two different centuries in one building.

The exhibits for primates at Pittsburgh are similarly poorly designed.

This exhibit has now been renovated, and an outdoor area for the colobus will be added soon.
