The World of Primates burned down in the mid-1990's in a tragedy that killed many apes, and the new primate house is for the most part a hideous joke of a complex. I was quite scathing towards it in my review of Philadelphia Zoo last year.
Since this photo was taken, the two sycamore trees in this photo have grown in quite nicely, and the plan is to let them grow a bit further before giving the gorillas access. In addition, the exhibit is filled with tall grass, and the zoo has also constructed a new climbing frame for the gorillas alongside the Gorilla Treeway Zoo360 trail. Objectively the zoo has drastically improved the gorillas' living situation.
