I’ve always known Rusa alfredi as Prince Alfred’s deer; I cannot get used to calling this species Philippine spotted deer. Perhaps I’m just old-fashioned.

(The species is named after HRH Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, who presented the type specimen to London Zoo on 5th May 1870.)
