Jeff was the last proboscis monkey at Apenheul and returned to Singapore in September 2015. The species never did well at Apenheul (like at most zoos outside Tropical Asia) and they decided to discontinue the holding. They were kept in what is now the red-capped mangabey exhibit.
i always wondered what led the proboscis monkeys that were kept in the us and europe, outside asia, die so fast, is it because they are just too specific in diet and necessities?

@BetoYoung As far as I understand diet is a major factor (with zoos in subtropical areas being able to provide local foliage likely making a big difference), they are also apparently very sensitive to stress. Climate might also play a role.
