Beautiful photo! Thank you for bringing attention to Custer State Park!
I made my first trip to Custer State Park on September 13th and it was fantastic! Along the Wildlife Loop Road and two interior roads, we saw 11 Pronghorn, 300+ American Bison, five large Black-tailed Prairie Dog colonies, and 34 species of birds including 9 Mountain Bluebirds, a Prairie Falcon, a Golden Eagle, 3 Red-headed Woodpeckers, 11 Northern (Red-shafted) Flickers, a Blue Grosbeak (female), and 12 Lewis's Woodpecker (my first time to see that species). Great place and I'm sure that it would have been even nice in June!
It was great. I really wish I would have taken more time and gone down the interior roads. Luckily saw the bison herd early in the morning as they were walking out towards a more inward area. The burros were a lot of fun though. Will definitely be going back one day, with more time devoted for this area.
