Pygmy Blue Whale Skeleton

This is one of the museum's pride and joys. It calls the atrium home and is one of the first things that people see as they walk in.

This is a really good way to display a whale skeleton, most museums tend to suspend them overhead, which makes viewing more difficult (but saves space I guess).

Will the Humpback Whale be displayed close to this skeleton?

Te Papa has a pigmy blue whale skeleton on display but it is hanging from the roof and is almost impossible to actually get a photo of because the room is so badly crowded with exhibits.

In contrast, the Otago Museum has a right whale (I think) skeleton displayed like the one pictured here (i.e. at visitor level) and it so much more effective.

I can't remember the one at the Otago Museum, but the Te Papa collection is quite bad, its hard to work out which label goes with which skeleton even.

The Natural History Museum in London has suspended whale skeletons, but these can be viewed from the next level also, giving a better view.
