Good to know the pygmy hippos do use the oudoor pools! In the last 20+ visits i've only seen it once, and that was the male at last year's late opening. In fact i think i've only seen them awake outside 2 or 3 times!

Agreed; I have rarely seen the pygmy hippos at Whipsnade make much use of their outdoor pools and they are, of course, less aquatic than their larger relatives.
However last Saturday afternoon all three specimens (especially the adult female and her calf) spent a lot of time in the water.
