Raden Saleh was one of the main actor behind Ragunan Zoo and donated some 10 hectares of land to the zoo, then located in a different site in central Jakarta. Decades later, the zoo was then moved to its current site (Then a government-funded botanical research site) in south Jakarta by the city government in 1966. The former zoo site is now the Ismail Marzuki Park, one of Jakarta's cultural and science center.
