I'm definitely not a fan of this exhibit. Mounds of concrete and a tiny pool that is barely big enough for the snake.

Free range snakes? Interesting, although isn't this one behind mesh?

Yes, this exhibit is the only meshed exhibit within the Asian Snake Temple. All the other snakes are free-ranging among the visitors.

The free-ranging snakes in here are Taiwan beauty snakes, spotted pythons, northwestern carpet pythons and radiated ratsnakes. There are also several types of turtles, frogs/toads and fish.

Do they have a problem with theft of animals, as I think that would prevent this type of walk-through being done elsewhere? The expensive alternative is to have members of staff present the whole time

I don't think that theft has ever been an issue in Randers Tropical Zoo. Like in Copenhagen Zoo and Odense Zoo it is quite the contrary! People occasionally add a new animal or species to the collection in the tropical houses if they get tired of their pet snakes/iguana/turtle ect. This can often be quite problematic.

The Snake Temple is located where there are staff members almost at all times. Right by the exit/entrance doors is an education station with keeper talks during the day.

Northwestern Carpets tend to be a bit on the snappy side. I guess they must have found some docile individuals.

Actually, the northwestern carpets stay well out of the visitors' reach at all times. They are easy to see though, resting on the rocks or heating pipes.
