Red-bellied guenons, female and infant

Enclosure by Entrance, Monkey World, 29th July 2019
Cercopithecus erythrogaster erythrogaster. Adult female 'Nia' with 'Biff', born 25th March.

These are the only group of this vulnerable species in captivity according to ZLT, good to see that they are still breeding but I cant imagine its sustainable without imports.

The adult pair were confiscated after being smuggled from Ghana. This is their first infant. Of course this single pair are of interest and of educational value, but you are quite right that more animals would be needed for a breeding programme either in situ or ex situ. I don't know if there are any individuals kept in Ghana or Côte d'Ivoire (even as pets) which could become further founders.
