Red crowned crane and chick, Whipsnade, UK

It’s a shame people often just walk past them. It’s really cool to have these, blue and wattled cranes on show around the zoo.

@ajmcwhipsnade True! I find if you point the lens at them people stop and peer in. And then sometimes you get the 'it's just birds'. Silent screaming. But you also get people who didn't realise there was much there and then stop.

I've been going each visit to see how big the chick is, such a cool thing to see.

@Lafone Yeah, even if I don’t have time to stop I always have a look as we drive past.

Will be a really busy corner of the zoo before too long!

@Lafone Reminds me of my visit to Chester last week, a group came up to me while I was taking photos of the collared trogons, looked in and said "Oh, boring".

If only they knew how rare they were perhaps?

@Fallax sometimes I do say something or point out the female or male if they are hiding and a different colour. It’s often hard to hide a liking for the feathery friends!
