Strange, I remember lots of plants covering the ground when I went...and I was surprised to see the Red Pandas crawling in them and not in their climbing structure..
really? They look similar aside from the difference in walls and ground plants. What was revamped? I cannot tell, its been a long time since my trip to Australia.
This enclosure, many years ago, housed bears. When I first saw it in the 70's it had sun bears. During the 80's it housed Black Bears (Jethro and Jed), and then Sun Bears again. It has been empty and overgrown with weeds for many years now, and work commenced on it for the Red Pandas about a year ago.
This enclosure is on the road that leads to the Lower Entrance, near the path to the Cable Cars lower terminal. It is literally at the bottom of the zoo.
I gather you took this picture of the right hand side exhibit from the little walkway ledge? The plants have grown so much since this photo was taken, and it is very hard to see the pandas with all then foliage (as well as the doubled exhibit size), especially harder than in their old exhibit.
