Red Wolf Woods opened to the public about 6 months ago with 5 wolves in two separate enclosures. However, there is currently a male and female together in one exhibit as the zoo is attempting to breed them while the second exhibit is empty. Apparently the 3 other wolves were so scared of the public that they would never emerge from their den, and so the zoo sent them back to their off-site breeding facility at nearby Northwest Trek Wildlife Park. That "sister facility" has around 40 wolves and so Point Defiance will choose some suitable candidates from those packs to place into the brand-new yet empty habitat at the zoo.
