The Vancouver Aquarium has two Pacific Walruses that are half brother and sister and approximately two years of age. The animals can vaguely be seen through a series of gates in their off-show pool, but twice a day they are put on public view for exactly ten minutes each time. I saw the keeper training presentation at 11:30 on January 1st and it was a great experience as walruses are only found in around 25 of the world's approximately 10,000 zoos/aquariums. Eventually the plan is for Vancouver Aquarium to place the pair on permanent exhibit and it is disappointing that the walruses have already been at the facility for an entire year and can hardly be seen by an eager public.
On a side note, I also saw keepers interact and feed the aquarium's 5 off-show Northern Fur Seals just before the walrus presentation began.
