I’m going to miss him so much. I heard him roaring when I was 10 along with one of his mates Mina I think who it was. He lived a very long life though.
@John Marchwick he was truly a star and bathed in the admiration of guests every single day, I truly think of Izu as one of favorite animals to admire each visit to the Safari Park
@Julio C Castro honestly same. I knew Oshana had died last year, and Estosha died a couple weeks ago as I think the Safari park did announce her death but the one that crushed me especially was Mina as I had no idea she had passed away either but she did 6 months ago. I honestly thought Izu, Oshana and Mina were the best Lion Pride out there and it’s sad that it’s an end of era but hopefully the park is able to get more lions soon. My heart is breaking for the keepers there too.
Was lucky enough to visit San Diego (zoo and safari park) a few years ago now while on business in the US, and saw him and the group then. A real 'wowser' of a lion (those eyes) and one of the highlights of my trip.
I enjoyed seeing your pics of him in the last couple of monthly photo posts! Reminded me of a favourite trip.
@John Marchwick they were iconic ambassadors for their specie at the Safari Park. Every time I walked by Lion Camp and would see any of the lions out walking, it felt like seeing them out in Africa without leaving Southern California. I do hope whatever pride comes in is able to make their own lasting legacy similar to the OG Lion Camp pride.
@Lafone that’s amazing to hear! I remember doing Roar and Snore event l, heading the pride of lions roaring into the night and waking up before breakfast to see Izu on top of the Kopje roaring throughout the entire Safari Park. I sorely miss them all and it’s a memory my gf and I hold close to us.
