Is it a pure subspecies or a mix (and just labeled as reticulated giraffe)? And if they are pure, are they related with west- and central-european zoo population?
Yes, they said it's a pure subspecies. The male named Hamlet (dead about 4-5 years ago) was from Aalborg zoo, it seems, and Luga, the female (picture), is local, born in Leningrad from parents imported fron Africa in late 1950th. Growing older Hamlet became very light and it were strong discussiong in our zoos, if he pure or no? And now his son Samsom in Moscow is also quite lighter then some years ago. As for me, I don't know where the truth is...
