Rhino and Baboon Mixed Exhibit at Port Lympne, 01/08/10

Home to Eastern Black Rhinos and Guinea Baboons. There are multiple rhino paddocks - only this one has the baboons as well (and it seems to not be used by the rhinos every day).

First shots I've seen of the two species sharing- or even the baboons using the rhino enclosure for that matter. Thanks for uploading them.

It's more a case of the rhino using the baboon enclosure than the other way round - the baboons always seem to have access to this paddock but there's not always a rhino in it!

Other way round when I went in June; rhinos in the paddock but baboons confined to the cage, no opening.

Thanks for that. Rather odd that - the cage isn't particularly big for number of baboons (though I suppose they'd have had the pretty large indoor area as well).

So it seems it really is pot luck which species is/are in the paddock each day!

Looks like there may be another little baboon on the way- see middle distance where the bare earth patch is.

I noticed when I went that the baboons' own outdoor enclosure is a classic Howlett's wire and wood 'drum' like their old cages- I thought they had stopped building these ages ago, but I suppose its sufficient for the babboons as they were having access to the paddock too. It seems to work okay?

Is this the rhino enclosure that has the African Experience road going through it?

If so, when I went early last year, the baboons were as Zambar has said, confined to IMO a rather small cage near the entrance to the paddocks.

Yes - the truck runs between two paddocks - the lefthand one is the one that is used when the species are mixed and has the adjoining cage for the baboons.
