Riddiford Garden aviary

February 2019
This aviary was built in 1926 (the Riddiford Garden is in Lower Hutt, a suburb of Wellington, and was created in 1923). There are - or were - six aviaries arranged around a central room, but two partitions have been removed at some point and now there are two smaller aviaries and two larger (double-sized) aviaries. One of the smaller aviaries is currently empty.

There are other photos in the NZ Other gallery from this aviary (from 2015), showing birds or signage for Superb Parrot (Barraband), Turquoisine, Budgie, Cockatiel, Indian Ringneck, Canary, Zebra Finch, and Californian Quail. However currently the aviary only has three species signed (Budgie, Cockatiel, and Indian Ringneck) and the only additional unsigned bird is a single Bourke's Parakeet in with the Cockatiels.

This photo shows the Budgie aviary which is one of the two smaller ones. The two larger aviaries (for Cockatiels and Indian Ringnecks) are double this size.
