Gigit

RIP, Fern-leaved acacia, December 2018

Mr Gigit has been making use of the zoo's many and varied trees to teach himself Trees. I took this photo of a beautiful, delicate-looking specimen at the corner of the zebra field for ID purposes. It was a Fern-leaved acacia, full of buds. This morning we discovered that all that was left of it was a stump and a pile of branches near the giraffe house :( I'll have to find out what led to its demise.

I understand that a particularly strong gust of wind blew the tree over a few days ago. The giraffes are now reaping the rewards.
