Lou the Hippo. When the State of Florida purchased Homosassa Springs and the adjoing zoo, all of the exotic animals were shipped out to create a park featuring native Florida wildlife. However, the locals are rather fond of the Hippo and petition the state to keep him. In order for the Hippo to remain at the park, the Governor of Florida made Lou the Hippo a Floridian.
