It is kind of bizarre that there is even a sign up about "Cat Row" or "Cat Walk" (or whatever it is named) as there are rock hyrax, meerkats, red pandas, binturongs and then a large red kangaroo yard all in the same area as the lion, tiger, snow leopard, jaguar, ocelot, cougar and bobcat exhibits. In truth none of the enclosures are very impressive and the entire area needs an overhaul.
When I was there, it was all cats. The large open kangaroo yard housed cheetahs (which have since moved to the African expansion that was under construction during my last visit). One of the smaller cages had a malayan tiger (still called indochinese at that time), in addition to the indian/bengal tigers that are in the larger yard. There was also a single cheetah in one of the other cages, in addition to the pair in the aforementioned open (kangaroo) yard. Another of the smaller cages housed a clouded leopard. Plus the cats that are still there - ocelot, jaguar, puma, snow leopard.
Although as a cat guy I will miss these, the malayan tiger and single cheetah were clearly in cages meant for smaller animals. So in this sense the current lineup is somewhat of an improvement, but I would still rather see it be small cats. Why not put serval in one and caracal in another?
