It is interesting to compare Louisville Zoo's Glacier Run exhibit complex, which just took home the Best Exhibit of the Year Award at the annual AZA Conference, with Hogle Zoo's brand-new Rocky Shores. Both have grizzly and polar bears but Hogle has 2 large outdoor exhibits and indoor viewing while Louisville has 1 outdoor exhibit and indoor viewing and thus the bears there spend most of their lives off-exhibit or in smaller areas. Hogle has bald eagles while Louisville has Steller's sea eagles arriving soon, and each zoo has a great new seal/sea lion pool. Overall Hogle has almost double the amount of water in all the pools (350,000 gallons in comparison to Louisville's 188,000) plus as a bonus a terrific river otter habitat.
Verdict: Utah's Hogle Zoo would be my first choice complex but both are terrific, crowd-pleasing additions.
