I've heard many notorious stories about the Rome Zoo, and when I visited Italy in 2003 I deliberately skipped this establishment. Are the carnivore cages still in use?
Last visited in 2006 and to be fair the Bioparco as it is now known is a mix of good,ok and poor exhibits.The new exhibits for chimps.brown bears,wolves and asiatic lions are excellent.Unfortunately the elephant house looks as though it was falling down and there was still some very cramped grottoes for the tigers.I left the zoo feeling slightly optomistic as it seems to know where it wants to go.I would certainly give it a visit if were in Rome again.
