You're welcome! If you say so.. I have seen some other really unusual species on zoochat Well, there where 4 birds in the enclosure, what I thought where 2 males and 2 females, so my guess is that they will try to breed with these birds, hopefully they will!
I still find it strange that these species(passerina sp) are quite rare in zoos nowadays. Are they hard to breed/keep in captivity?
Passerina Buntings in general have not been frequent breeders in aviculture [with Indigo probably the most frequently bred]. When they were freely imported & cheap, there was little incentive to make the extra effort to breed them. Also, comparatively few hens came over, as the trappers ate them. None of this applies to Rosita's which was never commercially available as far as I know. Certainly I was familiar with the other five species before I had evenm heard of it [we're talking 40 years ago].
It is possible there are small breeding stocks of Nonpareil & Indigo in Europe, but I would be very surprised if any of the others are left. Somebody prove me wrong please!
