The exhibit used to be the outdoor exhibit for African elephants, but when the last elephant died, it was rebuilt to house pygmy hippos. What must have been a bad elephant exhibit is now a pretty good pygmy hippo exhibit (though their indoor exhibit isn't all that interesting).
