inside the house

(July 2009)
Looking good. Was there in May and it was looking a little way off so glad it's up and going.

Why is the roof so high? Are they expecting the giraffes to roost?

Not sure why it's high. I guess because it gives a more open feel. It doesn't really feel like your inside because it's so open and light.

I think I have commented on this house before, but if so, let me do it again: GREAT PIECE OF ARCHITECTURE!

Isn't it just? I think I said on one of the other photo threads how the fact that it suggests an African building without trying to mimic one exactly ticks all my boxes. And well though out for the animals, too - spacious, light, divisible into separation areas, built-in browse winches. Great house.

Just a shame I missed seeing the animals in it by only a few weeks. Guess I'll have to go back to Rotterdam some day - I think I can live with that! :D

Very good point - and one that illuminates the fact that architecture is an "accumulating process" as well as any other art form. Nothing is ever truly "original" or "unique"...
