Chlidonias

roulroul or crested wood partridges (Rollulus rouloul)

they are a fantastic species! Really beautiful, active, interesting to watch, easy to sex. I wish we had them in NZ. They used to be in Australia but no longer.

They have an interesting breeding behaviour where (if I am remembering this right!) the nesting female covers herself in the leaf litter and if disturbed bursts outwards so the leaves fall back over the eggs and hides them. I imagine the straw on the floor of the cages here suits them well in that respect.
