Rusty was a lion from Wellington Zoo, born in 1977 and died in 1997. According to the museum signage he was the last animal from the zoo to have been turned into a taxidermy specimen. The mount was originally on display at the zoo in their education room, but was donated to the Wellington Museum in 2013 to stand alongside King Dick.
