rutting elk thrashing tree

Female elk (wapiti) and their offspring are present in Mammoth village (Yellowstone) year round. Males show up during the September rut. This male is thrashing a tree with his antlers, immediately after he finished marking his head and antlers with his own urine, as seen here: rutting elk self marking | ZooChat
