Safari - African Leopard Exhibit

August 19, 2024
@BetoYoung though possibly not entirely pure, these exhibit hold the African subspecies for a long time, probably from private suppliers or circus. The Javan subspecies are held mostly as either a rescue or for breeding purposes, though there was an exhibit in the main park.

Were there any report that proof otherwise that there haven't been no import of African leopards to Asia, let alone Indonesia?

I had been told that at least one zoo in Indonesia (possibly Bogor) held African Leopards. A bigger surprise for me was seeing all the open-topped Leopard exhibits. Risky!

@Rizz Carlton well, i don't think it's really hard to say that a leopard subspecies is generic aka hybrid or a purebred. i always thought the javan subspecies was only kept in their native range for the same reasons as western zoos hold amur leopards, and the javan leopard has all it needs to survive in their native range.

@Rizz Carlton you can find on zootierliste site. in asia only two asian zoos(one in china and the other in saudi arabia) have 2 purebred african leopards
