The salmon statue in this photo is superb, and the water even splashes the public walkway and entertains youngsters. The Bald Eagle complex, which opened in 2004, still holds up very well and is a top-notch exhibit. There is a short covered bridge that visitors walk through before emerging outside of a Bald Eagle aviary. It is possible to go inside the aviary and be separated from the single bird by only a few strands of wire. After getting a treetop viewing, there is a pathway that ventures down to a cave-like tunnel that has a massive freshwater tank that is actually inside the Bald Eagle exhibit. There are 5 species on display (White Sturgeon, Chinook Salmon, Coho Salmon, Rainbow Trout and Bull Trout) and while the fish are much too large for the rescued eagle it does make for a fantastic visitor experience. Farther along are exhibits for beavers, otters, ringtails, turtles and a few snakes and lizards. For the most part the entire Great Northwest section of the zoo (also containing black bears, bobcats, Rocky Mountain goats, cougars and condors) is excellent.
