Savanna animal list

February 25, 2016.
Are all these animals in one exhibit?

Not quite. The zebras were initially mixed in but were too rough with the other animals, so the far back of the savanna was fenced off just for them. The elephants have their own half of the savanna, separated from the rest by a small lake with an underwater barrier. The giraffes have their own yard on one side of a raised viewing platform and the rhinos are on the other side. The antelope (and birds I presume) can go back and forth between the two by passing underneath the viewing platform.

@Arizona Docent I gotta say that it's a bit of a shame that the addax, zebra, and springbok were phased out but I hope they'll make a comeback in the future

@Arizona Docent another thing I gotta ask is how come the zebras were too rough on the other animals? I thought zebras got along with wildebeest, impala, springbok, rhinos, giraffes, eland, ostrich and kudu.
