Giant Eland

Scanned Columbus Zoo Photos 2006

banded palm civet (Hemigalus derbyanus)
This species is really cool.

Did you ever see the Loxodonta cyclotis that lived at the Columbus Zoo until 1991 Giant Eland? Have you ever seen one in your travels?

I never payed much attention to subspecies until recently, and Loxodonta cyclotis has only been elevated to species level since 2010 (thanks wikipedia) I was expecting to see one in 2010 at Munich Zoo but unfortunately it was merely an ISIS listing error.

The first time I was at the Columbus Zoo was in 2006 so I definitely didn't see one there. I may have seen one at one point, I'd have to know more about where they've been kept in the United States. Does anyone know what other Forest Elephants (Loxodonta cyclotis) have been kept in the United States from the late 1980s onward?

Columbus had forest elephants? In another thread I mentioned something about a dream- putting them in the Congo-African Forest area. Where did they keep the cyclotis?
