What an extraordinary herd of scimitar-horned oryx as it is bizarre seeing this species in a woodland environment. Other than the crocodile/alligator exhibits are any of the enclosures at Altina viewed on foot or are they all seen from the horse carts? The exhibits seem to all be very basic wire fenced areas, but at least the animals have loads of space.
Almost all except the crocs/gators are viewed from carts. The only other time we got off was at what they called the quarantine paddock, where they had some quiet Kangaroos, Bantang calf and a couple of Blackbuck. They also had some bread for kids to feed them and a pen of goats nearby, then back on the wagon.
Other than the carnivores almost all fences are 6 foot deer wire, with a few more wires on top and a few electric wires in some cases.
