Sea Lion Cove second view

Sea Lion Cove opened in 2012 and won the AZA exhibit of the year award.

It is a truly immersive exhibit that pulls people out of the main zoo and into an area surrounded by a berm with coastal vegetation from the California coast (which is about 150 miles from where Fresno is). One feels like one is walking through a dune ecosystem to the ocean. There are ocean sound effects played and you are completely removed from the rest of the zoo.

The exhibit is laid out like a movie. This is the second scene of the sea lions. The exhibit has California sea lions, harbor seals, and brown pelicans.

Judging by the pictures, this is one of the continent's best pinniped enclosures. Sea Lion Sound in Saint Louis (also new) is pretty magnificent as well. A new era for seal/sea lion pools?
