Californian Sea Lion, Zalophus californianus.

Rather hastily (it seems) converted from dolphin exhibit to sea lion exhibit, with the addition of the plastic raft at the top left. Personally, I'd rather this had stayed dolphins.

They were only visible by going to the show; I don't know if they've reduced the number of animals but the group in the show building seem to be the only ones now.

Oh ok, thanks. I was confused because I had only seen photos of this pool and presumed that this was the only dolphin show pool, but I discovered some of a more rectangular pool! Did they used to do dolphin shows in both?

I've never seen any shows in this pool on my four visits over the last 12 years or so, but it certainly looks likely to have happened at some point - the roof has seating around the pool: http://www.zoochat.com/467/aqua-rama-barcelona-30-05-11-a-222977/

That's interesting as I had thought that I had seen some fairly recent show photos from that pool. Maybe not. Was this pool just for dolphin observation then? I presume the other pool is a newer one. Do they sea lions do any kind of demonstration or performance in there?

It was on my visits, but that isn't to say it couldn't have been at other times.

Not that I'm aware of.

I was there a week ago and the majority of the aquarama is closed off. You can only access the first few underwater viewing windows and none of the top deck area. Therefore you can only see the sealions underwater. I think this is a terrible shame! I would definately love to see the dolphins in there again given its size when compared to the dolphinarium. I suppose it has the major disadvantage of no holding pools or other areas for the general husbandry that is required with dolphins, probably why they moved them out?

I was there this weekend and also thought it was a great shame that there was no access to the top viewing area, and also due to the lack of dolphins. I presume, as you've said that the issue was the holding area, although I think the change has only been a recent one- maybe there have been some new, recent regulations? It is a shame as the move between pools for the seasons was probably quite stimulating for the dolphins and the aquarama is a lot more sunny. I have seen photos of sea lion shows being held in the aquarama, but there weren't doing them this weekend, so I presume they're a summer thing.
