The origin of the giraffes in Chinese zoos is very complex, and there are frequent exchange of giraffes among Beijing Zoo and other Chinese zoos, mainly to avoid inbreeding, but the pure-bred of different subspecies is not considered so much.
Hundreds of South African giraffes have come from South Africa recent years, and I believe more will come, so it's not difficult to build pure-bred herds. However, the reticulated giraffes, which used to be the main part of giraffe population in China, maybe cannot keep pure-bred from now on, because we cannot get new reticulated giraffes from East Africa or European zoos any more. Masai giraffes are not common in Chinese zoos, and maybe all haven been hybrid.
