Here's Katani during the bird show. 3rd time performing this season, and they're hoping for more as he's doing well with his routine.

For those wondering, he's chasing a lure for treats.

Apparently Secretary Birds are notoriously difficult to train, as they aren't too smart. The host of the bird show said that Toronto Zoo is one of two zoos in North America to have Secretary Birds in their bird show that he knew of.

Not surprising there are so few in shows. There are only 35 or so in North America period. I would much rather see Katani out every day on the savanna with a mate and rearing young. There are plenty of exhibits he could join. He is the most valuable secretary bird in North America since he is wild born. Such a pity his genetics are being wasted in Toronto.

Really? You'd think they'd try finding a mate for him to be with. Is there any specific reason for him not being with a mate?

Yep he is an educational animal. Plus well the population is so small. People arent willing to give up one of theirs. I think there are also a more males then females. Katani can always be paired later to increase genetics is probably the theory.
