The Dan Moran Aviary was constructed in the mid 1980s (1984 or 1985). When it was first opened, it had a South American theme and this was one of the original graphics. I can remember seeing Blue-winged Mountain Tanagers, Silver-throated Tanagers, Golden Tanagers, Violaceous Euphonias, Red-and-White Crakes, and Amazonian Motmots when it first opened. By 1988 it had changed to a mixed-continent tropical bird building. I don't believe any of the birds on this sign occupied the aviary, but the Zoo has held Red-legged Honeycreepers and a breeding pair of Hawk-headed Parrots.
Upon initial entry, I suspected the aviary’s signage alluded to a previously-Neotropical theme and collection. At least I can confirm that was the case thanks to you @Summer Tanager!
