Really interesting photo. Andrew. (The adjective "nice" would probably be inappropriate..)
Quite unusual to see Weeper Capuchins these days, too. I know that capuchins can be quite bloodthirsty primates - how many others have witnessed this sort of incident ?
I wonder how they managed to subdue and then kill it? Grey Squirrel have a nasty bite and the size ratio between the two species isn't that great here.
Sewerby's Capuchins regularly kill Grey Squirrels, not that I have ever actually witnessed the act taking place. The zoo and the estate in general are crawling with squirrels - one day last winter there was one in just about every pheasant and waterfowl feeding bowl in the zoo. I counted nine squirrels in the walk-through aviary alone that day.
The Capuchins, by the way, are Cebus albifrons. They are currently labelled as "Brown Pale-fronted". When the original group arrived the zoo had wanted White-throated which it had had previously and had ordered four specimens advertised as "White-fronted" on a dealer's list - fairly enough: "albifrons"! It was a mistake by the zoo.
