He is one of the few confirmed Seychelles Giant Tortoise in the U.K,their are some at Paignton as well possibly 1 in private hands and a possible at Twycross but they`ve never had the dna tests done on the last 2 places.Would be nice if they could get all the Seychelles Tortoise together and have a serios crack at breeding them.
I think there was a question about the big male at Bristol too. Are the Paignton specimens fairly new? The giant tortoises I saw there three or four years ago were young Aldabrans (confiscated, I think).
I think most of the suspected speimens in zoos are old males. I agree that they should be collected together if there is any chance of breeding them, but I think they ought to be repatriated to join the breeding programme in the Seychelles.
