September 2014. This show features killer whales. Behind the show tank are 4 holding tanks, one of which is called Shamu's Underwater Viewing and it is open to visitors during all park hours. It also has a large sheltered terrace on one side of the pool with tables for the upcharge Dine With Shamu. It is this holding tank that is slated for demolition, to be replaced with a much larger habitat that will feature 40-foot high viewing windows into a pool that will be up to 50 feet in depth, 350 feet in length, and occupy 1.5 acres.

Was Aquarium de la mer still under construction. Do you know when it will open and what new features are going to be there?

Yes it was still under construction, but there were no details or graphics or opening date posted at that facility.

I agree with Megakillerwhale. By all accounts this sounds like it will be a great exhibit, both for visitors, and for the welfare of the animals in it. Hopefully once it's done they'll work on other exhibits. Wild Arctic, at least in my opinion, definitely could use some improvement to the Beluga and polar bear exhibits.

What exactly happened to this plan? Was it canceled do to outcry from animal rights activists that they need to be "Free and in the Wild?"

@pachyderm pro after the (questionably legal) ban on breeding by the CCC, these plans were canceled and the money was diverted to other projects across the parks: SeaWorld San Diego has opened a new area (a sea-themed ride from which you can see multiple aquariums) and SeaWorld San Antonio opened a new roller coaster. I'm not sure if Orlando gained anything from this.
