Taken 11/2/20. Sharks! Predators of the Deep is new for 2020. It is a 20-foot-deep habitat that holds 1.2 million gallons and has 7 viewing areas. The opening shark species lineup includes 20 total specimens of four species: Great Hammerhead, Silvertip Shark, Sand Tiger Shark, and Tiger Shark.
It's pretty cool to see the diversity presented in the viewing areas, with different angles and options for seeing the various types of sharks. It really is amazing that there isn't a walk-through underwater tunnel, which is so common these days in plenty of shark tanks. Based on this new, 1.2 million gallon expansion, I'm not sure if there are any other North American aquariums that are as impressive as this one in downtown Atlanta. There is often a friendly debate about the 'big three' of Monterey Bay/Shedd/Georgia, but this $100 million expansion is surely the icing on the cake for Georgia. I visited this facility in 2008 and I'd love to head back there one day.

My previous visit was in 2009, and I have to say that the additions since then did not impress me except for this newest wonderful exhibit!

@geomorph I was there in 2008 and since then the aquarium has spent $110 million on dolphins, $40 million on sea lions and now $100 million on sharks, as well as some smaller additions such as puffins and alligators. It appears that the shark complex is perhaps the best of the new habitats.

I believe I saw 3 at one time, but hard to tell. I did not find out the total number of them, except that the exhibit had 20 sharks of 4 species.
