'Sheba', 'Judy' and 'Jubilee' 1977

Indian elephants, 'Jubilee' was Chester's first elephant calf, born 8th May 1977, fulfilling one of George Mottershead's lifetime ambitions. Photo taken on 23rd August 1977.
Note the original entrance to the Pachyderm House, as it was sometimes called. The grass and trees in the background were in the tapir paddock.

I have only just realised that Sheba, the elephant in front of Jubilee and Judy, will have been pregnant with Motty in this photo - he was the unique hybrid calf fathered by the African bull Jumbolino, born in July 1978, but only living for 10 days.
