@brown bear 555 There's a sign at this zoo (which I uploaded into the gallery) about this particular Siamang and the sign says 'albino'. The ape was extremely friendly and a very memorable animal, but sadly its eyes are kind of wonky and they roll around while it looks at you. Its golden hair is amazing to see up close.
I think it was mentioned that this specific individual have a mental/neurological issue, hence that behavior.
It's very suprising how they able to keep this golden siamang for a long time and also keep his well, considering said conditions and how short-lived most rare color-mutations like this siamang are.
@snowleopard I'm not an expert on primates, but seeing this is an albino specimen, I could day that maybe he's inbreed, and that's a cause of how he looks like.
Dear snowleopard,
I am writing an article on albinism in primates. Could I use this photograph, and if so, how would you you like me to acknowlege you?
Thanks, in advance, for your consideration.
Sincerely, Thomas Geissmann
