@Rohin I agree, although on the trip I was told that sometimes it helps with crocodilian breeding success to have a large land space and multiple nesting areas to encourage egg laying. On a side note, many of the zoos in Southeast Asia have spectacular, huge outdoor reptile exhibits that are probably amongst the best in the world. The climate requires very little extra effort to keep enormous numbers of crocodilians, turtles and tortoises outside year-round.
@snowleopard it is true. I have seen an Asian zoo keep snakes in large aviary style cages with live trees allowing them climb. I think spit and southeast Asian zoos can generally afford to have larger spaces (and more individuals) for their crocodilian enclosures as you say, then their western counterparts.
