I've been told African Greys in particular among Parrots, are actually very demanding and neurotic birds, and unsuited to life in cages, and very susceptible to stress, which is so many need 'rescuing'. True?
They certainly have a reputation for being nervous, for example taking ages to get used to new cage toys. The Timneh Grey (I think most authorities now regard it as a full species - I was discussing this with the park owners at Filey last week) is said to be a much steadier bird than the African Grey, or nominate form until recently, but I think its horn-coloured beak and dull tail feathers have made it a less popular subject in aviculture and pet keeping.
